En ese mundo el amor es un concepto ridículo, la figura de Dios se ha sustituido por la del arquitecto de ese sistema, Ford, y los niños son concebidos en probetas genéticamente condicionados para pertenecer a una de las 5 categorías, de la más inteligente a la más estúpida. Bernard Marx, que ha desarrollado una actitud rebelde al ser rechazado socialmente, va a visitar una reserva natural de Malpais, cuyos habitantes no siguen el proceso de selección eugenésica. En aquel grupo conocen a John, un chico concebido de forma natural. A Bernard se le ocurre la idea de llevarse a John al mundo "civilizado" para hacerles ver a los que se burlan de él que es posible vivir sin drogas, sin Ford y sin manipulación genética.
